INSPIRAÇÃO ABORÍGENE
É das raízes aborígenes que nasce o
nome e a inspiração para o Ngoolark, o
novo edifício do Campus de Joondalup
da Edith Cowan University, em Perth,
Austrália. A palavra ngoolark - usada pelos aborígenes Noongar para denominar
a cacatua-negra-de-bico-curto, espécie
endémica do sudoeste da Austrália reflete a profunda ligação do projeto com
o meio que o envolve. Assinado pela JCY
Architects and Urban Designers, o edifício
reúne num só espaço diversos serviços
destinados aos estudantes e à comunidade do campus, nomeadamente escritórios
e espaços de trabalho e investigação.
Em termos arquitetónicos, a estrutura
angular é coberta por uma fachada em
alumínio dourado, dobrado e modelado de
forma a lembrar as penas do pássaro que
batizou o edifício, num constante diálogo
com a herança cultural e natural do local.
ABORIGINE INSPIRATION
The name and the inspiration for Ngoolark,
the new building on the Joondalup
Campus of Edith Cowan University, in Perth,
Australia, find their roots in Aborigine culture. The word ngoolark - used by Noongar
aborigines for the Carnaby’s black cockatoo, a bird species native to southeast
Australia - reflects the close ties of the
project with its surroundings. Designed by
JCY Architects and Urban Designers, the
building brings together in a single space
several services aimed at students and
the campus community, namely offices
and work and research spaces.
In architectural terms, the angular
structure is covered by a façade in gilded
aluminium, folded and moulded so as
to bring to mind the feathers of the bird
that gives its name to the building, in a
continuous dialogue with the cultural and
natural heritage of the place.
