QUESTION TAG
Question tag são perguntas curtas que aparecem no final das
frases com o intuito de questionar ou confirmar a informação
dita previamente.
Ex: Mike is your father, isn’t he? (Mike é seu pai, não é?)
Regras para question tags:
- A question tag sempre vem na forma oposta a frase. Isto
significa que se a frase está na afirmativa, a question tag
estará na negativa. De forma análoga, se a frase está na
negativa, a question tag estará na afirmativa.
- A question tag sempre vem após vírgula.
- A question tag sempre vem no mesmo tempo verbal que a
frase principal (e é importante que o estudante saiba qual
tempo verbal a frase se encontra e qual o seu respectivo
verbo auxiliar mesmo quando este não está evidente).
Ex: The company opened yesterday, didn’t it?
(A empresa abriu ontem, não abriu?).
Marcus will travel to Spain, won’t he?
(Marcus vai viajar para a Espanha, não vai?).
You should study more, shouldn’t you?
(Você deveria estudar mais, não deveria?).
Peter and Sue didn’t buy a new house, did they?
(Peter e Sue não compraram uma casa nova, compraram?).

MODAL VERBS
SHOULD: expressa conselho ou recomendação.
Os verbos modais (modal verbs) são um tipo especial de
verbos auxiliares que alteram ou completam o sentido do
verbo principal. De um modo geral, estes verbos expressam
ideias como capacidade, possibilidade, obrigação, permissão,
proibição, suposição, pedido, vontade, desejo ou, ainda,
indicam o tom da conversa (formal / informal).
Ex: You should study more.
(Você deve estudar mais) – expressa conselho.
You should not smoke so much.
(Você não deveria fumar tanto) – expressa conselho
CAN – COULD – MAY – MIGHT – MUST – SHALL - WILL –
SHOULD – OUGHT TO – WOULD
Ex: You should not / ought not to walk alone late at night.
(Você não deve / deveria caminhar sozinho tarde da noite.)
Everybody should / ought to wear car seat belt.
(Todos deveriam usar cinto de segurança no carro.)
You ought not to accept offers from strangers.
(Você não deveria aceitar propostas de estranhos.)
CAN: expressa permissão, habilidades e capacidades.
OUGHT TO: expressa conselho, obrigação,
probabilidade. Bem similar ao modal should.
