Os estudos da religião nas ciências sociais raramente focalizaram a cultura material e as
imagens. Alias, dar muita importancia a objetos e imagens parecia implicar cair em
antigas acusações e teorias como idolatria ou fetichismo. Nos últimos anos, entretanto, a
antropologia parece ter perdido o medo de objetos e imagens e começa a reconhecer a sua
importância não só nas práticas religiosas, mas também nas relações entre religiões.
Nesse mini-curso propomos discutir algumas abordagens recentes ao campo, pensando
em particular a sua aplicação ao estudo das religiões no Brasil.

1. Cultura Material e Religião.
O estudo dos objetos na antropologia tem se revitalizado nas últimas dácadas. Nesta
primeira aula vamos discutir algums dos textos e questões fundamentais na
recuperacão da cultura material nos estudos da religião, e como esa recuperação pode
contribuir ao estudo do campo religioso no Brasil.

2. Fetichismo.
O tema do “fetichismo” é um dos mais complexos e polemicos da antropologia da
religião, mas nos ultimos anos, apareceram algums textos muito interessantes que
abriram novas direções na teoria antropologica em geral.
