III CONGRESSO BRASILEIRO DE GENÉTICA FORENSE II JORNADA LATIONOAMERICANA DE GENÉTICA FORENSE 10 a 13 de maio de 2011 • PUCRS • Porto Alegre • RS • Brasil Population data for 12 Y-chromosome STR loci in a sample from Santa Catarina Menezes, ME1*; Ocampos, M2; Latorre, AFS1; e Correa, JA3. The Y chromosome non – recombinant portion has been used to construct highly discriminative Y haplotypes. The nonrecombining portion of human Y chromosome is a source of polymorphic regions for analysis of male DNA and they are very usefull in paternity testing, forensic genetics and population genetics. The Powerplex Y System consisting of 12 Y –STR markers (DYS19, DYS385a/b, DY389I,II, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393, DYS438, DYS439 and DYS437) were determined from a sample of 70 unrelated male individuals from Santa Catarina state and some parameters were calculated. A total of 67 different haplotypes were found, 65 haplotypes of them were found to be unique. The haplotype diversity and discrimination capacity were calculated. Pairwise haplotype distances showed that the Santa Catarina population is not significantly different from Rio Grande do Sul and Rio de Janeiro and very different from Amazon. The results revealed that the Y – STR loci used were able to discriminate most of male individuals in the Santa Catarina population, therefore these results will be of great value in paternity testing when the alleged father is unavaible but other patrilineal are.
