Objectivos da unidade curricular e competências a desenvolver:
O aluno irá efectuar tratamentos de prevenção primária, bem como atender
pacientes que vão pela primeira vez à Clínica Universitária. Assim, o aluno terá
a oportunidade nesta unidade curricular de fazer um diagnóstico e definir um
plano de tratamento para o paciente. O aluno irá: realizar a história clínica;
propor um plano de tratamento adequado de modo a orientar o paciente para
as diversas áreas médico-dentárias; aplicar correctamente o CPOD e/ou cpod;
saber transmitir ao paciente a forma mais adequada de executar a sua higiene
oral; conhecer os métodos de escovagem mais eficazes de modo a instruir os
pacientes na clínica; reconhecer as necessidades individuais de cada paciente
e motivar para um adequado controlo de placa bacteriana; conhecer os índices
de placa e compreender a sua relevância clínica; saber diagnosticar a
necessidade individual de selante de fissuras e a sua aplicação clínica;
conhecer as indicações e aplicar correctamente o gel de flúor em moldeiras.
Objectives of the curricular unit and competences to be developed:
The student will perform primary prevention treatments, and observe patients
who go for the first time to the University Clinic. Students will have the
opportunity in this unit to make a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan for
patients. The student will: carry out the clinical history; propose an appropriate
treatment plan in order to guide the patient to the various medical and dental
fields; correctly apply the DMFT / dmft; transmit to the patient the most
appropriate oral hygiene instructions; know the most effective methods of
brushing in order to educate patients in the clinic; recognize the individual
needs of each patient to motivate an appropriate control of bacterial plaque,
understand the clinical relevance of the plaque index; diagnose the individual
needs for fissure sealants and its clinical application; know the indications and
correct application of fluoride gel.
Conteúdos programáticos:
Aquisição de conhecimentos e atitudes preventivas na área da saúde oral.
Desenvolvimento de capacidades relacionais e comunicacionais no contexto
clínico.
Desenvolvimento de uma correcta história clínica com especial atenção para o
diagnóstico e plano de tratamento estabelecido pelo aluno.
Incutir, sensibilizar e estimular o gosto do aluno para a prática clínica,
facilitando o seu processo de transição para o ambiente clínico e
familiarizando-o para os problemas reais que lhe são inerentes.
Criar e desenvolver métodos de trabalho que o aluno possa aplicar com
entusiasmo nas diversas tarefas propostas, visando a excelência.
Definir estratégias que permitam a evolução natural do aluno, acompanhando-o
nas suas dificuldades e tendo em vista o superar das mesmas.
Syllabus:
Acquisition of knowledge and attitudes in the field of preventive oral health.
Development of relational and communication skills in the clinical setting.
Development of a proper medical history with special attention to the diagnosis
and treatment plan established by the student.
Encourage and stimulate the student for clinical practice, facilitating their
transition to the clinical environment and familiarizing it to the real problems that
are inherent.
Create and develop working methods that the student can apply with
enthusiasm in the diverse tasks proposed, aiming for excellence.
Strategies to the natural evolution of the student, accompanying him in their
difficulties and in order to overcome them.
Demonstração da coerência dos conteúdos programáticos com os
objectivos da unidade curricular:
O ensino de Medicina Dentária Preventiva assume um carácter fundamental na
educação médico-dentária no que respeita à sensibilização dos problemas
orais emergentes da comunidade em que estamos inseridos. Como tal a
disciplina acarreta uma grande importância na formação do aluno tendo em
vista alertar para as patologias orais, bem como para o método de trabalho
clínico que o aluno terá que desenvolver ao longo da sua profissão.
Tendo presente o seu enquadramento a disciplina tem como objectivo a
contínua evolução do aluno no ambiente clínico e na multiplicidade relacional
presente na dinâmica médico-paciente.
Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's
objectives:
The teaching of Preventive Dentistry assumes a fundamental role in medical
and dental education regarding to the awareness of oral health problems
emerging in the community where we operate. In view of its framework the
course aims at continuous development of the student in the clinical setting and
relational multiplicity present in the doctor-patient dynamic.
Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída):
A área disciplinar será ministrada em 16 semanas perfazendo um total de 32
horas práticas. Os alunos irão consultar pacientes que vêm pela primeira vez à
Clínica Universitária, bem como pacientes que pretendem realizar uma
reavaliação da sua saúde oral e queiram realizar tratamentos preventivos
primários.
A avaliação contínua irá valer 2/3 da nota final tendo como base os seguintes
parâmetros:
• Pontualidade e assiduidade (5%);
• Colaboração com o colega (entre binómios) e relação com o paciente (10%);
• Exactidão de conhecimentos demonstrados avaliado através da elaboração
da história clínica do paciente (45%);
• Tratamentos específicos da área disciplinar de Medicina Dentária Preventiva
como a aplicação de selante de fissuras e aplicações tópicas de flúor, em
moldeira (15%);
• Realização ao longo do semestre de dois relatórios onde o aluno deve
descrever correctamente (25%):
A avaliação final escrita valerá 1/3 da nota final.
Teaching methodologies (including evaluation):
The unit will be taught in 16 weeks for a total 32 hours practice. Students will
see patients who come for the first time to the University Clinic, as well as
patients who wish to carry out a reassessment of their oral health and want to
make primary preventive treatments.
Continuous assessment will be worth 2 / 3 of the final grade based on the
following parameters:
• Punctuality and attendance (5%);
• Collaboration with colleague (between binomials) and relationship with the
patient (10%);
• Accuracy of knowledge demonstrated by the development of the assessed
clinical history (45%);
• Specific treatments of the subject area of Preventive Dentistry and the
application of fissure sealants and topical fluoride (15%);
• Presentation of two reports (25%):

objectivos da unidade curricular.
A Medicina Dentária Preventiva permite ao aluno em ambiente clínico orientar
devidamente o paciente para as respectivas áreas da medicina dentária
consoante o plano de tratamento estabelecido. Assim, é importante nesta área
disciplinar instruir o aluno como diagnosticar e realizar um correcto plano de
tratamento de modo a conseguir dar ao seu paciente os melhores cuidados de
saúde médico-dentários possíveis.
Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the
curricular unit’s objectives.
Preventive Dentistry allows the student in a clinical setting to guide the patient
properly for their respective fields of dentistry with a treatment plan established.
It is therefore important in this unit to teach the student how to diagnose and
perform a proper treatment plan in order to be able to give the patient the best
medical and dental care possible.
