2013-14: Session 3 Marco Ruffino (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) Contingent A Priori: Some Perspectives 16 December 2013, 9:30 Faculdade de Letras de Lisboa Sala Mattos Romão (Depto de Filosofia) Abstract: In this presentation I discuss some of the main approaches to the examples of contingent a priori truths presented in Kripke's Naming and Necessity and Kaplan's ‘Demonstratives’. I argue that none of the approaches so far developed is quite satisfactory (for different reasons), and try to develop my own account based on the consideration of the Kripke-like examples as performative sentences (in Austin's sense).
